Smart, certified, educated and empathetic: that's the profile of every BootCampSF instructor. We're here to make sure you get a safe, challenging workout, not your own personal Private Benjamin. You might even enjoy yourself. (Yes, such a thing is possible at 6 AM. You might be surprised by what's possible with some fresh air, fun people and plenty of well-earned endorphins.)

Keith’s first love is track and field. He won several collegiate conference championships in shot put and discus, including a 3rd place at an NCAA Division II National meet that earned him All-American status and set the shot put record at SFSU. Off the track, he's tried all avenues of fitness and athleticism: he's been through a significant weight loss (50 lbs), competed in adventure races and tackled 100-mile road bike rides. He can also empathize with injury recovery, having rehabilitated from multiple knee surgeries. With years of elite athletic training behind him, Keith knows how to motivate, educate and support you on the road to fitness.

A native San Franciscan, Andrew attended St. Ignatius Prep and was only lured away by the prospect of a soccer scholarship at Regis University. Luckily, Regis is in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains: an outdoor athlete's dream backdrop. After spending four years on the slopes and trails, he's happy to be back in the Bay Area. These days he starts his days at the break of dawn with BootCampers in Golden Gate Park and then heads to his full-time marketing gig downtown. Andrew has several marathons and triathlons under his belt and is targeting an Ironman for Summer 2011. If you're not tired just reading this, one of his workouts will ensure that you will be very, very soon.

Chris used to be a gym rat. You know, the guy who spends all his time “lifting” in weight room. The results were so impressive that other members started asking for advice, so he got his AFAA certification at age 19 and got to work as a personal trainer. That might have been the end of the story, had he not discovered Chinese martial arts and Tai Chi, and later, backpacking. The holistic nature of martial arts, and the satisfaction of being outdoors with a pack, completely changed Chris’s approach to physical fitness. Now a backpacking veteran and practitioner of Kenpo and Jujitsu, Chris can help you find the mental and physical reward of challenging yourself beyond the gym.

We’ll be honest: Brandon is such a diverse and accomplished trainer we can’t fit it all in here. Brandon grew up in Marin County playing every and any sport throughout childhood, going on to play lacrosse at UC Santa Barbara. Post college he spent time back home in Novato coaching his high school lacrosse team, working as their offensive and conditioning coach. What gets him fired up athletically? Alternative sports: the bigger the adrenaline rush, the better. Whether that rush comes from snowboarding, surfing, wakeboarding (flips out in the chilly Pacific anyone?), he’s not picky. Brandon splits his time between training and saving lives–in his “free” time, he’s a volunteer fire figher in Marin County. And yup, you know what that means: he's a certified EMT. So just in case, you really can’t make it through one of his workouts, he can also rescue you.

A native, Valerie's been keeping fit on the streets of San Francisco since childhood: while her dad ran, she followed on a bike. She picked up running while in college and after a marathon in Hawaii, she was hooked. She's since completed multiple triathlons, an Ironman and recently qualified for the venerable Boston Marathon. Not only does Valerie want her bootcampers to believe they can complete a major milestone like a triathlon, she takes this philosophy home: her 5 year-old just completed his first kid-sized triathlon. Oh and in case you were wondering, she kept running throughout both of her pregnancies, up through the 8th month (of course!).

Brooks is a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing: he’ll blow you over with his pleasant laugh and smile all while telling you to run just 2 more laps or to do just 50 more push-ups. He’s not all charm though: he graduated UC Berkeley, swimming competitively and playing water polo. He was a finalist multiple times for PAC-10 Championships and also qualified for the past 3 Olympic trials, competing in the 2000 and 2004 trials in multiple swimming events. He continues to train for triathlons, open ocean paddleboard racing, team handball and isn’t planning to stop swimming or playing water polo anytime soon. Helping weekend warriors find their inner athlete and seeing that spark when they realize just how much they’ve accomplished in his class keeps him inspired to keep pushing the envelope to ensure your workouts are fresh, fun, injury-free (he has a gusto for perfect form) and most of all, really, really challenging.

Spending much of her childhood in both Costa Rica and England, Tyler has always been on the move. Having a knack for getting in on what the locals did for fun, Costa Rican surfing was an easy fit for this girl with energy to spare. She took this natural athleticism into her track career at SFSU, finishing 2nd in the 400 meter hurdles at the NCAA Division 2 State Championship and 14th at Nationals in 2010. Of course, this was all before breaking the SFSU school record in the 400 meter hurdles in her 2010 outdoor season. Besides breaking records, she still finds time to wakeboard in the summer and head to Tahoe in the winter to get her snowboard on. Spreading this contagious energy into your workouts is one of her specialties. Consider this a fair warning: take her class and you just might be inspired to break some records of your own.

Unassuming might be the best word to describe Jodie and we’re not just talking about her small stature. A parkour enthusiast and instructor, she likes to climb things, lift things and run things that would never cross your mind. But don’t worry, she won’t make you do that. At least not at the beginning. But, trust us in that her workouts may not include climbing the exterior of the Bank of America Tower, they will be tough. And heck, one day you just be inspired by Jodie to climb something crazy too.

Leandra’s infectious high-energy has been the fuel powering her life's athletics. She was lucky enough to be raised in Hawaii and expelled her boisterous childhood energy by distance running, playing soccer, surfing, kayaking, hiking, tree-climbing and simply bouncing off the walls. While in college she focused her energy into kickboxing, training first in traditional Thai and later turned her enthusiasm for the sport into teaching Turbo Kickboxking at many local gyms.
These days you'll find her climbing Hayes Hill, boxing it out at the gym, trail running by the Bay, or stretching it out at Yoga Tree on Hayes Street. Leandra’s passion for healthy eating means that she'll always ensure you're well fueled for her BCSF classes. Her knack for creating a warm welcoming group means you'll be bounding out of bed every morning to meet her for class. We promise. |

Humility is one of our favorite traits. Especially when they come packaged in a trainer that gracefully runs a marathon and shows up the next morning at 6am for a 5–mile run with her class. Yup, Annah is that trainer. It might sound annoying, but we promise you that her gentle way of encouraging and motivating you comes from a genuine and pure place: she’s gone through a significant weight loss in her lifetime and wants to spread the love with you. It might not be today, but if anyone believes that you can do any athletic adventure that you put your mind to, Annah’s your girl.

Sebastian grew up in Santa Cruz where he began his sports career running in the, often unforgiving, Santa Cruz Mountains. He continued his athleticism in college, where he started bodybuilding, cycling and studying dance. He’s also a nut for nutrition science and has since been reading everything he can get his hands on about all things food related – he is an especially good resource for all you vegetarians and vegans out there. Besides teaching BCSF classes, he keeps himself busy in San Francisco these days with many personal training clients and by diligently working at his aspiration to be a professional dancer.

Cat is the lovely voice on the other end of the line. She holds down the BCSF office, answering phone and email, processing payment and coordinating the schedules of our trainers. Also a believer in the transformative power of fitness, she has participated in every sport from tennis to basketball to rowing. Like her brother, Keith, she competed in discus and shot put competitively. After falling off the fitness wagon in college, she came to BCSF to get fit. 3 years workout around and always gets a kick out of sharing workouts with bootcampers all over town.
