Smart, certified, educated and empathetic: that's the profile of every BootCampSF instructor. We're here to make sure you get a safe, challenging workout, not your own personal Private Benjamin. You might even enjoy yourself. (Yes, such a thing is possible at 6 AM. You might be surprised by what's possible with some fresh air, fun people and plenty of well-earned endorphins.)
Keith
Keith's first love is track and field. He won several collegiate conference championships in shot put and discus, including a 3rd place at an NCAA Division II National meet that earned him All-American status and set the shot put record at SFSU. Off the track, he's tried all avenues of fitness and athleticism: he's been through a significant weight loss (50 lbs), competed in adventure races and tackled 100-mile road bike rides. He can also empathize with injury recovery, having rehabilitated from multiple knee surgeries. With years of elite athletic training behind him, Keith knows how to motivate, educate and support you on the road to fitness.

raul
Raul
Raul's training philosophy: "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day; teach a man to fish and he is nourished for life." In the world of fitness and exercise, Raul believes education is key; his own education includes working as an Army medic, a physical therapy assistant and an elite athletic trainer. Well-versed in sports medicine, he currently specializes in strength and conditioning, injury rehabilitation, sport performance, functional training and core stability. Not only will you train hard with Raul: you'll train correctly. On any given day you can find him practicing judo, playing baseball, running trails, cycling, rock climbing and kicking your butt in Golden Gate Park.

Tracy
Tracy enjoyed a successful career as a web developer before leaving cubicle life to get some fresh air. Her obsession with the great outdoors has taken her up and down mountains as a biker, runner and hiker, and now she's sharing the love. With advanced education in outdoor exercise, first aid and CPR, her workouts are designed to help you reach your limits safely and injury-free, while remembering to enjoy the scenery. A six-year veteran of races like the Muddy Buddy, Angels Island and innumerable half-marathons, she knows how to set a goal and stick to it. Andrew
A native San Franciscan, Andrew attended St. Ignatius Prep and was only lured away by the prospect of a soccer scholarship at Regis University. Luckily, Regis is in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains: an outdoor athlete's dream backdrop. After spending four years on the slopes and trails, he's happy to be back in the Bay Area. These days he starts his days at the break of dawn with BootCampers in Golden Gate Park and then heads to his full-time marketing gig downtown. Andrew has several marathons and triathlons under his belt and is targeting an Ironman for Summer 2011. If you're not tired just reading this, one of his workouts will ensure that you will be very, very soon.

Chris
Chris
Chris used to be a gym rat. You know, the guy who spends all his time “lifting” in weight room. The results were so impressive that other members started asking for advice, so he got his AFAA certification at age 19 and got to work as a personal trainer. That might have been the end of the story, had he not discovered Chinese martial arts and Tai Chi, and later, backpacking. The holistic nature of martial arts, and the satisfaction of being outdoors with a pack, completely changed Chris’s approach to physical fitness. Now a backpacking veteran and practitioner of Kenpo and Jujitsu, Chris can help you find the mental and physical reward of challenging yourself beyond the gym.

Sebastian
Sebastian
Sebastian grew up in Santa Cruz where he began his sports career running in the, often unforgiving, Santa Cruz Mountains. He continued his athleticism in college, where he started bodybuilding, cycling and studying dance. He’s also a nut for nutrition science and has since been reading everything he can get his hands on about all things food related – he is an especially good resource for all you vegetarians and vegans out there. Besides teaching BCSF classes, he keeps himself busy in San Francisco these days with many personal training clients and by diligently working at his aspiration to be a professional dancer.

Valerie
A native, Valerie's been keeping fit on the streets of San Francisco since childhood: while her dad ran, she followed on a bike. She picked up running while in college and after a marathon in Hawaii, she was hooked. She's since completed multiple triathlons, an Ironman and recently qualified for the venerable Boston Marathon. Not only does Valerie want her bootcampers to believe they can complete a major milestone like a triathlon, she takes this philosophy home: her 5 year-old just completed his first kid-sized triathlon. Oh and in case you were wondering, she kept running throughout both of her pregnancies, up through the 8th month (of course!).

Erika
Erika is not the person that you'd expect to meet when you show up for your first day of BootCamp: she's nice. Despite appearances, she won't be listening to your woes over coffee, but rather using her charms to inspire you to do just 65 (or so) more crunches. Her active lifestyle started at a young age prompted by cyclist enthusiast parents. They weren't kidding around with their love of an active lifestyle when they sent Erika to the Bollettieri Sports Academy (now IMG) in Sarasota, Florida for high school: think boarding school, but with personal trainers. Being in an environment that revolved around sports ensured that Erika soaked up fitness knowledge from a young age. She hasn't stopped moving since, continuing to play soccer, run, cycle and backpack. Oh, and chase you up Bernal Heights Hill.

brooks
Brooks is a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing: he’ll blow you over with his pleasant laugh and smile all while telling you to run just 2 more laps or to do just 50 more push-ups. He’s not all charm though: he graduated UC Berkeley, swimming competitively and playing water polo. He was a finalist multiple times for PAC-10 Championships and also qualified for the past 3 Olympic trials, competing in the 2000 and 2004 trials in multiple swimming events. He continues to train for triathlons, open ocean paddleboard racing, team handball and isn’t planning to stop swimming or playing water polo anytime soon. Helping weekend warriors find their inner athlete and seeing that spark when they realize just how much they’ve accomplished in his class keeps him inspired to keep pushing the envelope to ensure your workouts are fresh, fun, injury-free (he has a gusto for perfect form) and most of all, really, really challenging.

Ron
Spending her childhood in both Costa Rica and England, Tyler has always been on the move. Having a knack for getting in on what the locals did for fun, Costa Rican surfing was an easy fit for this girl with energy to spare. Catching waves with her Dad is still one of her favorite ways to spend a tropical afternoon. Back in the States she gets her thrills by sprinting and running hurdles for SFSU, wakeboarding with friends in the summer and heading to Tahoe during the winter to snowboard. Her inspiration to train others outdoors comes from being able to pass on her lifelong passion for fitness:  it happens in that moment when her class is finishing an early evening jog along Crissy Field, breathless, smiling and it’s clear they are loving the workout just as much as she is.

Ron
Ron got fit out of necessity—it’s one of the many requirements of being an officer in the US Army. (But never fear, real boot camp didn’t make him mean, just strong.) Since completing his term of service, Ron has established himself as a strength and conditioning specialist, helping people find their own muscle. He’s now a veteran personal trainer, with over ten years in the field and three credentials to his name. He truly believes that with physical fitness comes a wealth of benefits in all other aspects of your life. And with his BA in International Relations and Political Science from SFSU, you can talk politics over pushups.

Kerry
Kerry
When Kerry arrived in San Francisco 13 years ago, she said goodbye to frigid
East Coast winters and hello to two new loves – exercise and the outdoors. She's since run several marathons that have taken her from peaceful wooded trails in Alaska to the urban jungle of Manhattan. After a successful 12 year career in public relations and advertising, Kerry decided it was time to pursue her passion for health and fitness full time. She understands the challenges of balancing a busy schedule while still squeezing in a daily workout, so she'll make sure your BCSF experience is the best hour of your day – both challenging and fun. In Kerry's free time you'll find her running on Crissy Field, hiking in Tennessee Valley, coaching for the non-profit Girls on the Run Bay Area, and she can even occasionally be lured indoors by the prospect of a great kickboxing class. Kerry also provides one-on-one personal training.

Leandra
Leandra's infectious high-energy has been the fuel powering her life's athletics. She was lucky enough to be raised in Hawaii and expelled her boisterous childhood energy by distance running, playing soccer, surfing, kayaking, hiking, tree-climbing and simply bouncing off the walls. While in college she focused her energy into kickboxing, training first in traditional Thai and later turned her enthusiasm for the sport into teaching Turbo Kickboxking at many local gyms. These days you'll find her climbing Hayes Hill, boxing it out at the gym, trail running by the Bay, or stretching it out at Yoga Tree on Hayes Street. Leandra's passion for healthy eating means that she'll always ensure you're well fueled for her BCSF classes. Her knack for creating a warm welcoming group means you'll be bounding out of bed every morning to meet her for class. We promise.

Cat
Cat
Cat is the lovely voice on the other end of the line. She holds down the BCSF office, answering phone and email, processing payment and coordinating the schedules of our trainers. Also a believer in the transformative power of fitness, she has participated in every sport from tennis to basketball to rowing. Like her brother, Keith, she competed in discus and shot put competitively. After falling off the fitness wagon in college, she came to BCSF to get fit. 3 years later, she still believes that BCSF is the best workout around and always gets a kick out of sharing workouts with bootcampers all over town.
